The Rockaway Peninsula (also called The Rockaways ) is a narrow, elongated peninsula in the New York borough of Queens , which separates the bodden-like Jamaica Bay from the Atlantic . The western tip of the peninsula forms the eastern edge of Lower New York Bay .
Rockaway is home to several residential areas such as Far Rockaway with Rockaway Beach , a popular beach for New Yorkers on the Atlantic. To the east of the peninsula comes as part of Queens County , at the Nassau County , where the coast following Hempstead and Long Beach connect. It is part of the island of Long Island , which belongs entirely to the US state of New York .
