Edward M. Stumble
Edward Manin Stolper (born December 16, 1952 ) is a geologist , petrologist and planetologist at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech).
Live and act
Stolper earned a bachelor's degree in geosciences from Harvard College in 1974 , a master's degree in geology from the University of Edinburgh in 1976, and a PhD in geosciences from Harvard University in 1979 . In the same year he received a first professorship (assistant professor) at the California Institute of Technology , in 1982 he became an associate professor and in 1983 he was given a full professorship. Since 1994 he has been head of the Department of Geology and Planetary Sciences there, and since 2007 he has been Provost of the University. In 2013/2014 he was interim President of CalTech.
Stolper deals with the formation and development of igneous rocks in the solar system in field studies , laboratory tests , computer simulations and theoretical considerations . He examines samples from the earth , the moon and Mars as well as from various meteorites . He was able to contribute significantly to the understanding of the melting processes in the interior of planets and to the importance of water , carbon dioxide and sulfur in these processes.
Edward Stolper has been married since 1973.
