Effelder-Rauenstein was a municipality in Thuringia in the district of Sonneberg , which was formed in 1994 and merged with the municipality of Mengersgereuth-Hammern to form the municipality of Frankenblick on January 1, 2012 .

Effelder and Seltendorf are in the Effelder valley at an altitude of about 380 meters on the southern edge of the Thuringian Slate Mountains . Effelder and Seltendorf are street villages that extend for about 3 km on the federal highway 89 . The municipal area extended to 41.73 km². Effelder-Rauenstein was 395 m high. The last 3692 inhabitants lived in the municipality (as of December 31, 2010).

Rauenstein and Grümpen are located in the valley of the Grümpen on the southern edge of the Thuringian Slate Mountains about 2 km west of Effelder.

The municipal coat of arms is made up of parts of the coats of arms of the former municipalities of Effelder and Rauenstein. It is quartered and shows the elements of the bishop's staff and apple in the upper half, the Schaumberger colors in the lower left half and the Wettin coat of arms in the lower right half.

Economy and Infrastructure

The districts benefit from their proximity to the Coburg area , where numerous residents find work. There are also several small business parks.

The former municipality is located on the federal highway 89 , which leads from Sonneberg to Eisfeld . In addition, the Eisfeld – Sonneberg railway , which runs from Sonneberg to Meiningen , meanders through the municipality. There are train stations in Effelder, Seltendorf and Rauenstein (here with a hairpin) . The former Grümpen stop was shut down at the turn of the millennium as part of the last construction work on the rail line.
