description

Egelsee (2013)

Egelsee is located about four kilometers northeast of the center of Tannheim on the state road 300 to Memmingen . A chapel of St. Urban, first mentioned in a document in 1482, is located on its territory . The place borders on the Iller , which also forms the state border between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg .

Before the bridge over the Iller was built, there was a ferry dock with a customs station in the place. In 1397 most of the property in the village fell to the later imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen . The rights to the Iller ferry and customs station remained with the later Reichsabtei Rot an der Rot . Further rights owners in Egelsee were the free imperial city of Memmingen and the noble house Waldburg-Zeil .

In 1482 the Rot an der Rot monastery sold the ferry rights to the city of Memmingen. At the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1647, the Urbanskapelle was devastated by Memmingen iconoclasts .
