Eglof von Knöringen , also Egolf von Knöringen (* in the 14th century ; † January 10, 1408 ) was Provost of Speyer and Protonotary King Ruprecht I.

Life

He came from the old Swabian noble family von Knöringen and was the son of Cunrad von Knöringen and his wife Adelheid nee. from Steppach.

Knöringen first studied in Vienna , became canon in Augsburg on April 13, 1387 and studied again at the University of Bologna from 1393–1396 , where he obtained his licentiate in canon law on May 4, 1396 . There he also acted as legal counsel and procurator of the German student body. Job Vener and the later Speyer bishop Raban von Helmstatt were his fellow students here .

In 1401 Eglof von Knöringen appeared as protonotary to King Ruprecht and was evidently in his special favor, as he personally asked the Speyer bishop for a canonical and a cathedral priest for him. This request was granted. On February 11, 1403, Bishop Raban von Helmstatt also appointed him treasurer and treasurer of the Speyer cathedral monastery . On July 9, 1403, Knöringen is documented as provost of Speyer when he drafted his will. In this office he was the successor of Count Gerhard von Katzenelnbogen, who died in 1402 .

As a reward of his faithful services improved him king his family crest Ruprecht dated 24 May 1404 to the effect on that over the white ring of the crest a growing out of a golden crown, black plume could be added.

Eglof von Knöringen died on January 10, 1408 and is registered on this day with a memorial for the year in the younger Seelbuch of the Speyer Cathedral .
