Egon Neumann

Egon Neumann (born July 21, 1894 in Mödling , Austria-Hungary , † 1948 in Mexico City , suicide ) was an Austrian composer and conductor .

Life

Neumann, whose father was a lawyer , studied musicology at the University of Vienna from 1913 under Guido Adler (Dr. phil. 1919), then worked in 1920 as Kapellmeister in Mährisch Ostrau , in 1921 at the New Operettenhaus Berlin, in 1922 at the Central Theater Berlin and was the composer of the Entertainment industry . From 1920-1928 at the Bürgertheater as Kapellmeister, where he conducted the world premiere of his operetta Donauweibchen . Later he lived in Berlin , 1932–1934 again in Vienna , then in Paris . Worked on New Year's Eve 1939/1940 in the revue Meslay laughs with, organized by Karl Farkas . He fled to Mexico via France in 1938 . The diplomat Gilberto Bosques helped him. In Mexico he worked as a pianist and composer in the Heinrich Heine Klub until its dissolution in 1946 and staged a revue together with Hugo Wiener and Cissy Kraner .

Like Marcel Rubin , he was an active member of the ARAM (Acción Republikana Austriaca de Méxiko) , an independent movement of Austrians abroad .
