Glans tip

The Eichelspitze ( 521.3  m above sea  level ) is after the Totenkopf ( 556.8  m above sea level ) the second highest elevation of the Kaiserstuhl in Baden-Württemberg . Its summit is on the eastern edge of this low mountain range, near the meeting point of the district boundaries of Eichstetten , Bötzingen and Vogtsburg .

Bruderhäusle and St. Erhard's Chapel

Remnants of the wall from the Bruderhäusle with a floor plan

On the summit of the Eichelspitze, there is evidence of a late medieval hermit monastery consisting of a kitchen and bedroom with an adjoining St. Erhard's chapel. After the first readings by amateur archaeologists, the remains of the building attracted particular attention when further finds from the 14th to 16th centuries came to light in the course of the construction of a temporary observation tower. During the targeted excavation before the construction of today's Eichelspitzturm (opening in July 2006), numerous stove tiles, fragments of ceramics, jew's harps and a ring brooch made of bronze were added, which offer a good insight into the everyday life of the hermits living on site.

The building complex was part of the St. Peters monastery on the Neunlinden-Buck ( 555  m above sea level ; Totenkopf secondary summit) , 2.1 km away (as the crow flies) , which Hesso von Baden-Hachberg gave to some Pauline friars in 1387. The St. Erhard's Chapel is mentioned, among other things, in a land register of the Eichstetter parish in 1491 , which addresses the income of the small church.

Since Eichstetten belonged to the rule of Hachberg and thus joined the Reformation early on , the hermitage was probably abandoned during this time. Layers of furnace components and building materials suggest that the building will be demolished. From the building complex of around 16 by 9 meters, which was once surrounded by a ditch ( verified by georadar ), a remnant of a wall 4 m wide and 2.5 m high can still be seen today. The structural structure of the Bruderhäusles has been reproduced as a ground monument by a layer of above-ground granite blocks since the site was opened.

Acorn tip tower

The Eichelspitzturm in 2007

Since July 2006, a total of 42.5 meters high, stands on the glans penis pinnacle , in a joint action of the communities Eichstetten, Bötzingen, Bahlingen and Vogtsburg and of the association Eichelspitztum e. V., the state of Baden-Württemberg and the mobile operator O2 . The height of the visitor platform is 28 meters, from there you have a good all-round view of Kaiserstuhl, the Black Forest and the Vosges .

Visit to the acorn tip

The Eichelspitze is not accessible by car, but it can be reached via a geopath designed as a circular path that starts in the seed garden of the Kaiserstühler Garten foundation in Eichstetten. The nine-kilometer route takes about 1.5 hours over the old Eichstetter quarry to the summit. From the Fohrenbuck car park (Eichstetten) it is about a kilometer to walk up the hill, the Eichelspitze is also easy to reach from the Vogelsang Pass ( 277  m above sea level ) between Bötzingen and Vogtsburg.
