Surname

The name Eichenberg consists of the Middle High German words eichîn and bërc . He goes to a with oak -covered mountain back, which cleared was and populated. The place is popularly called "Eichemich".

history

The place already existed towards the end of the 12th century. In 1250 Eichenberg was first mentioned in writing in the Eppstein fief book . In the compound feed register of Mainz , ten Malter oats are counted for Rodinberch et Echhinberch ( Rottenberg and Eichenberg) . In 1685 the first chapel-like church was built in Eichenberg; whose tower was only built in 1875.

The municipality of Eichenberg belonged to the Alzenau district office , which was formed on July 1, 1862. On January 1, 1939, this became part of the Alzenau district in Lower Franconia . Due to the rapidly growing population, it was decided in 1948 to build a second church. The old Wendelinus Church was then used as a warehouse for agricultural goods. Since 2018 the property has been converted into a "village shop".

As part of the regional reform, Eichenberg and Rottenberg were supposed to form their own municipality, which did not come about. Then the community was incorporated into Sailauf on July 1, 1972.
