The Eichenring is in the east of Scheeßel located sandy racetrack (about three kilometers from the village center). Races with special motorcycles are held on the track .

history

The oak ring was first completed in 1951 on a former horse racing track in Appel near Helvesiek (approx. 10 kilometers north of Scheeßel) and was 850 meters long. The racetrack was operated by the Motor-Sport-Club Scheeßel , which was renamed the Motor-Sport-Club Eichenring ( MSC Eichenring for short ) in the same year . Location: 53 ° 14 ′ 20 ″ N, 9 ° 31 ′ 7 ″ E

In 1963, the railway in Appel could no longer meet the requirements of the international association . For this reason, today's Eichenring was built on a large piece of arable land near Scheeßel, initially 1000 meters long, and inaugurated as early as the next year with the finals of the 1964 European Championship . Location: 53 ° 9 ′ 34 ″  N , 9 ° 31 ′ 21 ″  E Coordinates: 53 ° 9 ′ 34 ″  N , 9 ° 31 ′ 21 ″  E

In the following years the stadium was expanded to become one of the most modern in Europe and the track was extended to a long sand track of 1,300 meters. For this reason, many championship finals - including international ones - (e.g. German championships , European championships , world championships ) were held on the Eichenring .

Open air concerts

In 1973 new territory was broken on the Eichenring : In the motorcycle stadium, it was not the engines that roared, but guitars and drums. A large open-air concert took place for the first time under the title Es rocks in der Heide . Such well-known musicians and groups as Chicago , Chuck Berry and Golden Earring came to this event . The concert was so successful that a new edition should be carried out in 1977. However, the organizer of the 1977 open-air concert ( First Rider Open Air ) could not pay the bands, so that many of the groups announced in advance of the festival did not even come to Scheeßel. This, in turn, led to such anger among many of the music fans who had traveled that in the end there were many injured and a burned-down stage.

As a result of these events, Scheeßel's rock music chapter seemed to have ended forever. This impression was reinforced when another rock concert (International Biker and Rock Festival) had to be canceled in 1992. As it turned out, the organizers of the planned concert were dubious and all announcements were just “lies and deception”.

All the more amazing it is that since the late 1990s Scheeßel again home to a large outdoor - music festival is: In 1997, on the Eichenring first time the Hurricane Festival organized. Since then, this festival has been visited by more and more music enthusiasts every year.

In 2004 there was even another festival on the Eichenring . The Lovefield Festival had moved from nearby Elsdorf to Scheeßel. However, this turned out to be only a short "guest performance", as the Lovefield Festival was relocated to Hamburg the next year .
