action

Actually it should have been the last concert for the famous conductor Robert Lennart in his old German homeland, but during a stopover he changed his plans and traveled on to Neuburg, the city where his musical career began. It was also here that he first fell in love more than 20 years ago. However, the bond died when he was looking for his professional success abroad.

The manufacturer Martin Thomas introduced Lennart to the city's dignitaries . When Lennart is introduced to the manufacturer's wife, he recognizes in her his first great love. Martin Thomas is the patron of the “Neuchâtel Music Week”. Therefore he asks the conductor to lead one of the concerts. Lennart agrees. During the rehearsal he met Wolfgang, the son of the Thomas couple. Wolfgang got it into his head to become a musician. But his father wants to prevent this. He would rather see his son show more interest in the company. Wolfgang's connection to the dancer Sylvia is also a thorn in his side.

Sylvia's circle of friends also includes Besselmann, a young composer of cabaret songs who is only called “grouch” by everyone. His preferred singer is Maxie Mell. One day Lennart accompanies Wolfgang to a performance. When he sits down at the piano and begins to play enthusiastically, Lennart realizes that Wolfgang is his son. Without identifying himself as a father, he promises the young man to promote his artistic career as much as possible.

After learning about Thomas Lennart's intention, Martin and Irene suspect the real reason. Irene then tries to talk to her childhood friend. Wolfgang involuntarily witnesses the conversation. He now knows why Lennart wanted to stand up for him and feels betrayed by him. In the future, the young man wants to devote all of his energy to his “father's” company.

Lennart says goodbye to his hometown with a glamorous concert.

criticism

"Cumbersome and unrealistic constructed society film."

“Symphony concerts and factory sirens, artist fame and life guilt, father-son conflict and loyal and unfaithful childhood love - everything here was adapted to the dimensions of the main actor Willy Birgel, that is: pressed into a slick society film . The young, intelligent and deliberately inelegant Heinz Reincke is placed so far on the edge that there is no contrast effect. "
