action

Susanne Johannson has just arrived on Mykonos with her daughter Jana when Jana's own inattentiveness has stolen her money and papers. During their stay on the island, they both stay with Susanne's friend Britta Paradakis, who runs a guesthouse. In the harbor, Jana, surprisingly, meets her father Jens Hansen, with whom contact had been broken in recent years. He tells her that six weeks ago he bought a boat in Crete and that he is planning to sail around the world. His days as a shipbuilding engineer are over. Jana tells her father that she will study veterinary medicine at a university in Croatia . Her grade point average is too bad for studying in Germany.

In a conversation with Susanne, Jens quickly realized what she was actually about. She has lost her job, has been abandoned by her long-term partner and hopes that he will fund Jana's studies. In the conversation it also becomes clear that it was Susanne who always kept him at a distance - also with regard to Jana. Jana, on the other hand, assumes that her father is rather indifferent to her and that he never placed any value on contact with her.

The other day Jana visits her father on his boat again to tell him that she doesn't want his money. When she trips, she loses her earring, which falls into a crack between two boards in the floor. After Jens removed the board, the duo found 650,000 Mexican pesos hidden under the planks, which corresponds to around 30,000 euros. Jens says he bought the boat from Stavros Markos, a rock solid Greek, before that it probably belonged to a Manolo Sanchez. In contrast to his daughter, Jens is of the opinion that he bought the boat and everything on it belongs to him. Jana says he should hand over the money.

Nikos Sakalidis, a policeman on Mykonos, invited Jana to show her "his" island. On the way he tells her about his eight-year-old son Timon. Melina, his former girlfriend, has a job in Hamburg and falls in love with someone else there. But his son always comes to Mykonos during the holidays. He is the sun of his life. The two spend, as Jana thinks, a really nice day together.

Jens hands Jana an envelope with a wad of bills, "for your studies," he says. Although she doesn't want to accept the money at first, Jens can convince her when he asks to let him do something right after doing so much wrong with her. He has no way of knowing that Nikos Sakalidis received an order from Athens a little later to arrest Jens. He traded 325,000 Mexican pesos at two different banks. The money probably came from drug trafficking. His boat was also to be sealed. Nikos informs Jana, who first wants to talk to her father alone. She tells him what's up, and Nikos shows Jens the arrest warrant. What Jana already suspects is confirmed, the money for her studies also comes from drug money. Nevertheless, Jana does everything she can to help her father, unlike her mother, who has to explain that it is not about her for once.

Nikos finds out that Sanchez was arrested two years ago in Cancún and sentenced to nine years in prison for drug trafficking. Jana believes that this proves that Jens is innocent. But it's not that simple. Jens should be transferred to Athens on Friday, a drug dog should search the boat. Jana asks Nikos for help, they argue, but make up again and spend their first night together. Jens is allowed to leave the prison cell for a few hours on his word of honor. She and Nikos practice tracking down drugs with the island dog, which Jana has named “Ouzo”. With Britta's help, Jens manages to escape from the cell that night, which Nikos spends with Jana. Jens and Britta found out at a joint meeting that they feel more for each other than just friendship. Jens leaves Jana a loving message. Nikos, however, gets into big trouble.

Thanks to Nikos tireless research, it turns out that the serial numbers of the banknotes that Jens exchanged in Athens and the banknotes that were seized in Cancun match. When Sanchez was arrested in Cancún, only the equivalent of 470,000 euros were seized, the 650,000 pesos found on board are the rest that was never found. Nikos is very committed to Jens Hansen in Athens, who is suddenly back in the door. Then the chief of police calls personally that the detainee is allowed to move freely, the new situation is checked, and the small police station is explicitly praised. And finally, Jana's papers are also found again, which has something to do with Ouzo and the young thief Charly. Jens, Britta and Jana set off for Croatia, where Jana will start her studies, not without promising Nikos beforehand that they will meet again soon. Susanne stays behind, she will take care of her pension for the time of Britta's absence.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv gave the film four out of six possible stars on its page and summarized: “A bit of everyday life as a separated family, parental love, young love, a bundle of Mexican pesos, plus a romantic island paradise, azure blue sea, clear sky and radiant Sunshine - these are the ingredients of the ZDF television film 'A Summer on Mykonos' [...]. "Author Thomas Kirdorf" construct a lively series of relationships from the five main characters, which, despite an arrest warrant, does not lose its typical summer vacation character [ e] and never become inappropriately dramatic ”. That is "all not earth-shattering", but seems "less pie than the Pilcher Plot monsters or the Inga Lindström idylls". The “overall impression” is “fresher and less formulaic”. The film, with its “good balance of fashionable high-gloss photography and Mediterranean flair”, is “easy to look away” and makes you want to go on summer vacation. The film is "a little ray of hope on the horizon of the ZDF-'Herzkino'". “One of the deciding factors for the positive overall impression (in the context of the genre)” are “the actors, especially Michael Fitz - the epitome of mature coolness and thus an ideal cast. Valerie Huber and Daniel Rodic ”are“ a couple to look at and enjoy, also Ann-Kathrin Kramer and Nina Kronjäger, both mostly a safe bet ”, are“ convincing in their roles ”. “Friendly to the critic,” said Tittelbach with a wink, “also the soundtrack […]”.

TV Spielfilm tilted its thumb to the side and said that “the people of Mykonos” “should be wished that the police there were a little smarter” “than those in the film”. Otherwise there was talk of an “unconvincing mix of a very simple crime plot and the obligatory love story”, “which, apart from beautiful island images, offers one thing above all else”: “boredom”.

The TV magazine Prisma, on the other hand, spoke of a “charming heart-cinema drama” that turned out to be “a typical representative” of this series, “with many emotions, light dialogues and breathtaking impressions of the landscape”. Director Jophi Ries devotes himself “extensively to the special features of the tourist magnet Mykonos, or 'Little Venice' as Nikos calls it: Colorful houses, a lively and windy harbor, clear water or the Kato Mili, the famous windmills, are captured as well as the exuberant party atmosphere or the flora and fauna. The film seems like a declaration of love for the island, mixed with a delightful and quite exciting story about family members who are looking for the path to reconciliation ”.
