The Spvgg Eintracht Glas Chemie Wirges is a soccer club from Wirges with around 500 members .
history
The club was founded in 1972 as a merger of the sports clubs SC Wirges (founded in 1924), SV Siershahn (founded in 1921) and SV Ebernhahn (founded in 1949). At that time, the founding chairman was the Wirges architect Otto Balmert . The EGC Wirges was based in the Oberliga Südwest for many years . The club belonged to this league for the first time in the 1978/79 season and was thus a founding member of the third-class league. In 1983, 1987, 1994, 1998 and 2014 Wirges was able to move up to the top division again. In 2016, the club voluntarily relegated to the Rhineland League and at the end of the 2016/17 season had to make the way to the District League East with the new team composed of youth players under head coach Thomas Arzbach. With coach Niko Foroutan, a powerful team was formed in the 2017/18 season that fought for a direct return to the Rhineland League and ultimately achieved it with a 2-1 win in the decider against VfB Wissen . In the Rhineland League season 2018/19 followed with the 16th place the direct relegation to the District League East.
The club's youth teams have been based in the Rhineland League and the Regionalliga Südwest for many years. The U15 were able to qualify in futsal in 2017/18 after winning the district, state and southwest German championships for the final tournament for the German championship and achieved a strong 6th place there. In addition, the U17s fought their way to fifth place in the German championship in 2018/19 and did not lose any of their three games (EGC 2: 1 SVNA; EGC 2: 2 Alemannia Aachen; EGC 0: 0 SV Sandhausen). In the group stage they failed in 6-meter shooting against the eventual winner SV Sandhausen.
