action

Jill Johnson, a teenager, takes a babysitting job with the Mandrakis family, who live in an out-of-town villa. In the evenings she receives disturbing calls where someone can be heard breathing heavily on the phone. At first, she suspects that they are jokes from Cody, a friend of her ex-boyfriend Bobby. However, when she realizes on further calls that she is being watched, she calls the police. With the help of an interception circuit , she later finds out that the stranger is calling from another telephone in the house. Shortly thereafter, Jill finds her friend Tiffany murdered in the bathroom, who had previously visited her in the villa and who had then made her way home. Jill decides to flee the house with the children, but is surprised by the stranger in the children's room. Together with the two children, she manages to escape the window. After she discovers the dead housekeeper Rosa in the pond of the property, a fight with the unknown ensues, in which Jill finally incapacitates the attacker and thus saves the children from worse. After the police arrive, the unknown intruder is arrested and the injured Jill is taken to the hospital.

Reviews

Peter Hartlaub wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle on February 3, 2006, that nothing could "save" the film. He described the casting of the main role with Camilla Belle as "adequate", but emphasized mainly its visual advantages. He found the behavior of the stranger who would not arm himself implausible.

Joe Leydon wrote in Variety magazine on February 3, 2006 that the film implemented the “clever concept” of the original in an “undifferentiated manner”. At the beginning he described some scenes as "subtle". Leydon praised production designer Jon Gary Steele and the three-story house as the setting for the horror film.

Matt Singer wrote in The Village Voice magazine on Jan. 31, 2006 that the plot was "thin" and "drawn out". The film would be "Hollywood-style" while the 1979 film would be an experiment.

The lexicon of international films judged: "The prologue of the horror film classic" The horror comes at 10 "(1978), which is laboriously extended to the length of a feature film, gives away its gloomy atmosphere all too quickly to several lengths and uninspired horror stereotypes."
