The Eiskarlspitze is a high mountain ( 2610  m above sea level ) in the Hinterautal-Vomper chain of the Karwendel . It is located south of the Engalm between the Spritzkarspitze in the northwest and Hochglück in the southeast.

topography

The Eiskarlspitze forms a steep ridge that slopes north-northeast, the so-called north ridge , which separates the Hochglückkar in the east from the Eiskarln in the west. Before the steep drop into Kirchlkar , this ridge forms a high elevation ( 2122  m above sea level ). The south ridge, however, separates the Spritzkar the west by Ödkarl the east. This ridge carries the Spitzkarlspitze ( 2376  m above sea level ), where the ridge divides into two branches that fall into the Vomper Loch and between which the small and steep Spitzkarl is embedded. The southwest ridge to Hochglück reaches its lowest point in the Hochglückscharte ( 2387  m above sea level ). The north-west ridge is much shorter than the approximately 2510 meter high notch, which is not described in more detail in the literature, and which separates the Eiskarlspitze from the Spritzkarspitze.

Ascent

Climbing the Eiskarlspitze requires at least climbing in the second degree on the UIAA scale . The mountain can be climbed from the Eng over the Hochglückscharte (II), from the Lamsenjoch over the western Hochglückscharte (II and brittle), from the south through the Ödkarl (III- and according to the guide difficult and difficult to find ). The approach over the Eiskarln and the northwest ridge requires climbing in the III. Degree. The north ridge was first climbed in 1899 by Otto Ampferer and Heinrich von Ficker . The tour, which is seldom taken today, requires grade IV in two passages, but is usually much easier. The transition from the Eiskarlspitze to the Spitzkarlspitze over the south ridge is grade II, the approach from the Vomper Loch over the south east ridge is more difficult at grade III.

glacier

The only glacier in the Karwendel is located north below the Eiskarlspitze in the Eiskarln

In the Northern Limestone Alps , to which the Karwendel belongs, there are a number of small and tiny glaciers . The only glacier in the Karwendel is located in the Hinterautal-Vomper chain to the north below the Eiskarlspitze in the Eiskarln .
