Ekkehard Krätzel

Ekkehard Krätzel (born June 27, 1935 in Leopoldshall ; † March 28, 2019 ) was a German mathematician and university professor .

Life

Krätzel studied mathematics in Jena from 1953 to 1958. He was a lecturer there from 1966 to 1969. In 1963 Krätzel received his doctorate from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena as Dr. rer. nat. with a thesis on the topic of higher theta functions . His doctoral supervisor was Wilhelm Erwin Otto Maier . In 1965 Krätzel completed his habilitation with a thesis on the theory and application of the L-transformation .

From 1969 to 1992 he was a full professor at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena on the chair for algebra . He taught as a visiting professor

Since 1996 he has been an honorary professor at the University of Vienna.

Krätzel was married and had children and grandchildren.

Research topics

Krätzel was interested in many things. In addition to number theory , which was his main field, he dealt with analysis and probability theory . He was the author of 5 books and around 70 scientific articles.
