El Gringo is a 2012 American action film directed by Eduardo Rodríguez and starring Scott Adkins . The film tells the story of a nameless man who goes to a drug cartel-controlled Mexican border town with a bag containing two million dollars and has to defend himself against almost everyone in order to survive.
action
El Gringo is an agent of the DEA . He reaches the Mexican border in his car. Before he overcomes this on foot with a bag full of money, he sets fire to his car and the drug dealer in his trunk. On his way to the town of "El Fronteras", he passes a small hut. To get water, he kills the three unfriendly men. Unfortunately, all supplies are lost in this dispute. He then frees the men's dog, who accompanies him from now on.
In the city of El Fronteras, El Gringo constantly gets into disputes with the local population. Among other things, he has to assert himself against the corrupt sheriff and his henchman Naco, who are all after his wallet. After El Gringo's former DEA colleague, Lieutenant West, managed to track him down here in Mexico, he arrested El Gringo and left the city with him. When El Gringo realizes that West is only after the money, he overpowers and kills him. El Gringo returns to the city and gives away the contents of his bag to the population in order to save the life of Anna, whom he has come to appreciate and love over the past few days. When the sheriff tries to shoot El Gringo , the dog unexpectedly saves his life.
El Gringo decides to stay in town with Anna and becomes the new sheriff in "El Fronteras".
The history of El Gringo is told in several retrospectives during the film ; from his last bloody mission. During a meeting between undercover DEA investigators and drug traffickers, for example, a shooting occurs in which his three colleagues were killed and El Gringo was wounded. All but one of the drug dealers died. He packed this in his car, where he then killed him before the Mexican border.
Reviews
Kino.de rated: “ Clint Eastwood , ' A Handful of Dollars ' and ' High Plains Drifter ' send their regards in this dry martial arts neo-western from the 'Desperado' school. It is reported that director Eduardo Rodriguez had seven million dollars available for his second film, and it is with satisfaction that the entire amount is being blown up on screen. Scott Adkins from the latest ' Universal Soldier ' is recommended once more as Jason Statham of the future. Fans won't have anything to complain about. "
Actionfreunde.de judged: “What you definitely cannot blame 'El Gringo' is that it would bore you with an overly complicated story.” Due to increasingly “grotesque” moments, “the interest in the flick always remains extremely high, although from a purely factual point of view, virtually nothing happens. And the weird figure interior naturally pumps a cool sense of humor into the film, which in the end is probably best described as rascal. "
