The 1949 season of the Primera División was the 46th season (the 18th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .

The Primera División consisted of ten clubs in the championship season of 1949, whose teams met twice in a total of 90 championship games. There were 18 game days. Club Atlético Peñarol won the championship as first in the table ahead of the second and third-placed clubs Nacional Montevideo and Rampla Juniors . As bottom of the table, Club Atlético Defensor was relegated . The top scorer was Óscar Míguez with 20 goals .
