Elektryon (son of Perseus)
Electryon ( Greek Ἠλεκτρύων ) is a king of Mycenae or Midea in Greek mythology .
myth
Elektryon is the son of Perseus and Andromeda , he married Anaxo , the daughter of his brother Alkaios . According to Hesiod , his wife was Lysidice , the daughter of Pelops . With his wife he fathered a daughter, Alkmene , and twelve sons, Perilaos, Nomios, Epilaos, Gorgophonos, Eurybios, Amphimachos , Kelaineus, Stratobates, Lysinomos, Cheiromachos, Anaktor and Archelaos . With the " Phrygian " Mideia he had an illegitimate son Likymnios .
The sons of Pterelaus came to Mycenae and, as descendants of Mestor , a brother of Elektryon, raised claims to rule over the kingdom. When they went unheard, they rounded up the Mycenaean cattle and wanted to take them away. The sons of Elektryon - except Likymnius, who was still very young - opposed them and an agreement was reached to fight for the herd of cattle. All of Elektryon's sons were killed. Of the sons of Pterelaus, only yours survived , who took the cattle away and gave them to the Elish king Polyxenus. Amphitryon , son of Alkaios, bought the cattle from Polyxenus and brought them back to Electryon.
Now Elektryon wanted to avenge his sons and prepared a campaign against Pterelaus. Therefore, he handed over the rule to Amphitryon and promised the wedding with his daughter Alkmene. But Elektryon was accidentally killed by Amphitryon when he threw a club at a runaway cattle and hit Elektryon. Amphitryon, Alkmene and Likymnios left the country and Sthenelos , another brother of Elektryon, took over the government. Amphitryon later led a large force against Pterelaus, avenging the death of Electryon's sons.
