Elena Hruschyna ( Ukrainian Елена Грушина ; born January 8, 1975 in Odessa , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian figure skater who started in ice dancing .
Career
Hruschyna started figure skating at the age of four. Her first ice dance partner was Mikhail Taschlitsky , who gave up figure skating because of his training.
In 1990 Ruslan Honcharov became Hruschynas ice dance partner. Still starting for the Soviet Union, they finished fourth at the Junior World Championships in 1992. In 1994 they made their debut at the Senior World Championships and in 1995 at the European Championships . In the same year they got married. In 1998 they played their first Olympic Games and finished in 15th place. In 1999 they were Ukrainian champions for the first time and were among the top ten at World and European Championships for the first time. In their second Olympic Games in 2002 , they finished ninth. In the 2002/03 season, Hruschyna and Hontscharow won Skate America , Skate Canada and the Trophée Lalique and thus all the Grand Prix competitions in which they participated. At the Grand Prix final , however, they missed a medal in fourth place. At the 2004 European Championships , the Ukrainians won their first bronze medal at an important international championship. In 2005 they became vice European champions and won their only world championship medal with bronze at the world championships in Moscow . In 2006 they were again runner-up European champions and won the bronze medal in their third Olympic Games in Turin behind the Russians Tatjana Nawka and Roman Kostomarow and the Americans Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto . After this success, Hruschyna and Honcharov ended their competitive careers.
Hruschyna and Honcharov are divorced. Hruschyna is today with the presenter of the Russian edition of Dancing on Ice, Mikhail Zelensky . In 2008 their daughter was born.
