Elena Walter-Karydi

Elena Walter-Karydi (born May 21, 1936 in Athens ) is a Greek-German classical archaeologist .

Life

Elena Walter-Karydi studied Classical Archeology and Philology as well as Ancient History at the University of Munich . In 1970 she was presented with the work Sami vessels of the 6th century BC. PhD. Landscape styles of Eastern Greek vessels . From 1975 to 1987 she taught at the University of Salzburg , where her husband Hans Walter was a full professor. With the work The Aeginian School of Sculpture. Works and written sources , she completed her habilitation in 1983 and, in addition to her teaching activities in Salzburg , began teaching at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken , where she became an adjunct professor in 1992. In 2001 she was visiting professor at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia . She was also a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation as a visiting scholar at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu . Walter-Karydi took part in German excavations in Greece.

Walter-Karydi is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) and a full member of the Athens Archaeological Society . She is a specialist in Greek painting, Greek vase painting and sculpture in Aegina . Together with Hans Walter, she edited the series Alt Aegina for the DAI until his death .
