Eleonora Hummel

Eleonora Hummel (born December 31, 1970 in Zelinograd , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a German writer .

Life

Eleonora Hummel comes from a family of Russian Germans who had been deported to Soviet Kazakhstan . Although the older generation in her family still spoke German , Eleonora Hummel grew up with Russian as her mother tongue . A first attempt by the family to move to the Federal Republic of Germany failed in 1976 after a year-long stay in the GDR . In 1980 the Hummel family moved to the North Caucasus ; In 1982 she made the second attempt to travel to the Federal Republic of Germany. Again, the Soviet authorities only allowed her to move to the GDR. The family settled in Dresden , where Eleonora Hummel attended school and learned German. After graduating from school, she completed an apprenticeship as a physics laboratory assistant and then another training as a foreign language correspondent for English and Spanish . She works in the secretariat of the Institute for International Law and European Law at the Technical University of Dresden . She is married and has two kids.

Hummel began writing narrative prose in the mid-1990s . Her work has been published in various literary magazines. Her debut novel was published in 2005, in which she processed the history of her family's relocation to Germany.
