Archives I - 1967–1975
Archive I - 1967–1975 is a 4-CD box by the British rock band Genesis and also the first part of the Archive series from 1998. Archive I covers the creative period of Genesis with Peter Gabriel as the singer between 1967 and 1975. The first two CDs contain a live recording of the concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway . A concert was recorded in full on January 24, 1975 in Los Angeles . Since singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett were not satisfied with their musical content during the preparations for the release of the archive, many vocal and some guitar tracks were re-recorded in 1995. This also applies to the live recordings of various songs from the progressive rock phase of Genesis on the third CD . Finally, the fourth CD contains recordings from the early days of Genesis towards the end of the 1960s.
The phase of Genesis after the departure of Peter Gabriel and with Phil Collins as singer is covered by the second part of the archive series, Archive II - 1976-1992 .
