Invisible Touch (English for: " Invisible Touch ") is the 13th studio album by the British rock band Genesis from 1986. The album is the band's second most commercially successful with over 15 million copies sold worldwide; the sales figures were only exceeded again by the 1991 successor We Can't Dance .
background
Recorded at a time when the record had the highest market rank and the CD had yet to establish itself, Invisible Touch was recorded in analogue, digitally mixed and digitally produced (ADD). Shortly after its release, the album was received largely positively by critics and fans : All five singles from the album reached the US top five, including a number one success for the title track. Too Deep can be heard in the 1986 film Mona Lisa . The music video for the song Land of Confusion , in which the band and all other prominent contributors were played by rubber dolls from the British satirical program Spitting Image , also became known. In Great Britain the album debuted at number one on the charts , in the USA at number three, the highest ranking of a Genesis album in America to date.
The album could appeal to old and new fans. The sound was shaped more than ever by synthesizers and synth drums and thus adapted to the listening habits of the time. Radio-friendly pieces such as Land of Confusion and Throwing it all away, as well as the title track Invisible Touch in particular, appealed to listeners of pop music , while the longer songs, such as Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and Domino , were more aimed at friends of the band's progressive phase. The musical instrumental The Brazilian showed that the band had not lost their willingness to experiment. During the production of the album, it was originally planned to split the song Tonight, Tonight, Tonight into two interwoven songs called Monkey and Zulu . However, the bulk of Monkey became Tonight, Tonight, Tonight ; The Brazilian developed from the remaining ideas for Zulu .
The lyrics of the album show the rather rare attempt by the band to express themselves critically on social and political issues. So the song describes Domino nightmarish visions of a possible nuclear war , while Land of Confusion , which later as bands Disturbed gecovert should be, with the political implications of the Reagan / Thatcher / Gorbachev apart sets era. Finally, the enigmatic text of Tonight, Tonight, Tonight is often interpreted as an examination of drug addiction . Officially, all songs were written in equal parts by all three full-fledged band members, even if there were lead authors for each title.

Description of individual songs
- Land Of Confusion : The best-known song on the album, along with the title track, deals with the climate of fear and aggression during the Cold War . Thanks to the video clip , the “ puppet figures ” shown there - among others from US President Ronald Reagan - gained worldwide popularity and popularity in 1986.
- Tonight, Tonight, Tonight : The second longest song on the album deals with the serious subject of drug addiction, which has never been seen before in any Genesis track. The song was released as a single in a heavily abridged version, and the full album version was only performed in full on the same tour.
- In Too Deep : The song was used for the film Mona Lisa by Neil Jordan . The novel American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis (published 1991) contains a detailed analysis of the album from the point of view of the protagonist Patrick Bateman. In the description of his favorite band, Genesis, he shows emotion and sympathy, a rare exception in the context of the rest of the plot. Some songs on the album were also used for the film American Psycho .
- Anything She Does : Although the song was not released as a single, a music video was made for it, in which British comedian Benny Hill also played. It tells a short story in which Hill plays a guard who fails to keep some fans out of the band's rooms. The song is about pornography, another rather unusual subject for the band.
