John Silver (* 1950 ) was the second drummer in the British rock band Genesis . He had attended St Edward's School in Oxford and replaced Chris Stewart's predecessor at Genesis in the summer of 1968 . Together with Peter Gabriel , Tony Banks , Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips he recorded the album From Genesis To Revelation and can also be heard on some Genesis tracks that only exist in demo form: Build Me a Mountain , Image Blown Out , The Magic of Time and Hey! (all on the fourth CD of Archive I - 1967–1975 ). In July 1969, Silver left the band to study in the United States and was replaced by John Mayhew .

Back home again, the trained hotel manager initially worked as a TV producer for Granada, Reuters and Thames Television, before finally working in the IT sector. He lives in London with his wife Lucy and three children and was the band's only early drummer in 1998 to be present at the Genesis get-together for the release of Archive I.

Anthony Phillips wrote the Silver Song in his honor in 1969 , which was published in 1986.
