Eleonore Kastner

Eleonore Maria Theresia Kastner , née Sepp , known as Oma Ella , (* January 7, 1910 in Kelheim ; † January 27, 2015 in Beeskow ) was a German hairdresser who was often mentioned in various media in her old age because she was regularly with Was a visitor to the Cologne Carnival or the Munich Oktoberfest for over 100 years - here she was considered the oldest visitor. She demonstrated her hairdressing skills in 2012 at the age of 102 when she did the hairdressing of a local councilor in the historic hairdressing salon in Altenburg .

Life

Kastner grew up in Kelheim until she was nine years old, where her parents owned a lime plant. Then she moved to Amberg ; most recently she lived with one of her grandchildren in Berlin-Reinickendorf . She had four children, three of whom she survived. She also had five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Since 1988, when her husband died, she has been traveling frequently: She has been to India, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Bhutan, the USA and the Bahamas, as well as to almost every country in Europe.

The fact that she attended major events such as the Eurovision Song Contest or the Munich Oktoberfest as a centenarian received widespread media coverage. Also due to the media attention, Kastner met numerous people from contemporary history until her death in January 2015 . Through regular reports in the tabloid media she gained a certain regional awareness.

She was a regular attendee of the Eurovision Song Contest, and she was an honorary member of the Eurovision Club since 2011. She was often there backstage and appeared on Russian television in 2012 with the Russian Babushkis (they came second). Also in 2013 in Malmö she was guest of honor together with the oldest living winner of the ESC, Lys Assia . In 2014 she finally met the winner Conchita Wurst several times , whom she had already invited to the ESC 2015 in Vienna. On November 26, 2014, she was awarded the smago! Award as the oldest active Schlager fan.

Kastner visited the Kingdom of Bhutan in 2011 , where she was received by representatives from the Foreign Ministry. During the ten-day stay, she met both the Prime Minister of Bhutan and the Queen of the country, from whom she had been invited to a private audience. In August 2014 she was the guest of honor at the Prince's Festival in the Principality of Liechtenstein and was welcomed by Prince Adam and the incumbent Prince Alois . In August 2014 she was personally received and blessed by the Dalai Lama on the occasion of his visit to Hamburg.

"Grandma Ella" died on the night of January 27, 2015 in a hospital in Beeskow, Brandenburg, at the age of 105. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living Kelheim woman. Furthermore, she was one of the oldest Facebook members and therefore also known in the USA.
