Eleanor of Prussia (born August 21, 1583 in Königsberg ; † April 9, 1607 in Cölln ) was a princess of the Duchy of Prussia and was elector of Brandenburg by marriage .

Life

Eleonore was the fourth daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia (1553–1618) from his marriage to Marie Eleonore (1550–1608), daughter of Duke Wilhelm the Rich of Jülich-Kleve-Berg . The princess grew up with her sisters in Königsberg Castle .

On November 2, 1603, she became the second wife of Elector Joachim Friedrich von Brandenburg (1546–1608) in Berlin . The marriage was concluded for political reasons. On the one hand Joachim Friedrich hoped to strengthen his influence in the Duchy of Prussia, where he acted as regent for Eleonore's mentally ill father; on the other hand he hoped for Eleonore's maternal inheritance. Johann von Löben was appointed Eleonores Hofmeister .

The Electress died at the age of 24 shortly after the birth of her only child in childbed. Eleonore's body was buried on April 26, 1607 in the Hohenzollern Crypt in the Berlin Cathedral .

progeny

Eleonore had a daughter from their marriage:

⚭ 1631 Count Palatine Ludwig Philipp von Simmern (1602–1655)
