Elfi Scho-Antwerpes (born September 19, 1952 in Rösrath as Elfi Scho ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She has been honorary mayor since 2004 and became the first deputy mayor of the city of Cologne in 2009 . In October 2015, Scho-Antwerpes moved into the Bundestag as a successor for two years.

Life

Study and job

After completing her school education, Elfi Scho studied civil engineering with a focus on urban development / regional planning at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 1976 as an engineer . After completing her studies, she initially worked in the private sector and then worked in the urban development department of the Cologne district government until 1983 .

In October 2012, following an anonymous request to the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Architects, it became known that Elfi Scho-Antwerpes incorrectly referred to herself as an “ architect ” in interviews and on the website of the City of Cologne , but was actually not listed on the list of architects . Scho-Antwerpes let it be known through her lawyer that she regretted this false job title. According to the old law, she met the requirements to be included in the list and to be able to use the protected professional title of “architect”. Nonetheless, she has "not practiced her profession for 30 years, not even working as an architect and thus not deceiving anyone". She will no longer submit an application.

Political career and offices

In 2004 Elfi Scho-Antwerpes joined the Cologne City Council and was elected honorary mayor. She was re-elected in the local elections in 2009 and has since been the first deputy mayor, then Jürgen Roters . In addition to representative tasks for the city of Cologne, she is mainly active in the political areas of social affairs, culture and integration . She is a member of the committee for art and culture and represents the council in the city working group for lesbians, gays and transgender people. She has also been a voluntary member of the board of directors of Aids-Hilfe Köln since 1988 and, since 1998, the district chairman of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Köln and chairwoman of the support group for the Comedia Theater in Cologne. She is also a member of the board of trustees of Diakonie Michaelshoven , chairwoman of the Cologne Cultural Forum . She is u. a. Patron for the social sports initiative Rheinflanke / KölnKickt and for the major social project Non-Violent Learning in Cologne , which is committed to violence prevention and against violence and exclusion among young people in the Cologne area.

In 2013 and 2017 she ran for election to the Bundestag without success . On October 1, 2015, she moved into the Bundestag as a replacement for Christina Kampmann , who became Minister for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Private

From 1983 to 2003 Elfi Scho-Antwerpes was married to the former Cologne District President Franz-Josef Antwerpes . She has two children and lives in Cologne- Klettenberg .

Awards and honors

  • In 1999 Elfi Scho-Antwerpes was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
  • In 2011 Scho-Antwerpes was awarded the Ginkgo , a prize from Cologne cemetery gardeners, for “their sustainable commitment to a lively urban cemetery culture ”.
  • In 2012 Scho-Antwerpes was awarded the European Tolerantia Prize . With the award, which has been awarded annually since 2006, the Maneo project of the German association Mann-O-Meter e. V. together with the anti-violence projects SOS-Homophobie from France and Lambda and KPH from Poland honored outstanding personalities who have made a contribution to tolerance . Scho-Antwerpes received the award for her high level of commitment against homophobia . The award ceremony took place in September 2012 in Prague .
