Elisabeth von Regenstein-Blankenburg (* 1542 ; † July 20, 1584 in Quedlinburg ) was as Elisabeth II. Abbess of the empire-direct and free-worldly monastery Quedlinburg .

Life

Elisabeth came from the family of the Counts of Regenstein . She was the daughter of Count Ulrich von Regenstein-Blankenburg (1489–1551) and his second wife Magdalena zu Stolberg , who died in the fire of Blankenburg Castle in 1546 .

In 1565 Elisabeth was elected coadjutor of the monastery. On March 5, 1574, one day after the death of Abbess Anna II , she was consecrated as Abbess. The patron of the monastery, Elector August von Sachsen , was initially against the election, but the abbess finally confirmed after negotiations and settlements. It was also determined that all abbesses and coadjutor sisters should only be elected with the prior knowledge of the patron. The taxes to be paid to the monastery should be determined jointly by the patron and abbess.

Elisabeth laid out the palace garden and a water art . In 1583 a theological debate was held in the town hall of Quedlinburg , to which theologians from the Palatinate , Braunschweig , Saxony and Brandenburg were delegated by their princes.

In order to combat the increasing debt, she pledged the so-called Munzenberger Vorwerk . Because her health was deteriorating, she arranged for Anna zu Stolberg to be elected coadjutor and requested confirmation of this choice in a letter to the emperor. But before this confirmation, Elisabeth died. She was buried in the castle church.
