Elke Walther (born April 1, 1967 ) is a German soccer coach and former national soccer player .

Career

The goalkeeper belonged from the 1990 to 1992 season to the Bundesliga club VfL Sindelfingen , before moving to SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach and then to TuS Niederkirchen without a point game . From the 2003/04 season she was a member of SC Freiburg for four seasons , for which she made her debut on May 30, 2004 (19th matchday) in a 3-1 defeat at home against Hamburger SV . She played her fourth and last Bundesliga game for the club on May 6, 2007 (18th matchday) in the 2-6 defeat in the away game against FCR 2001 Duisburg . In the 2003/04 season she was assistant coach and since the 2006/07 season she has been the goalkeeping coach at SC Freiburg.

National team

Walther played 17 international matches for the senior national team . She made her debut on March 21, 1989 in Sofia in a 3-1 win over Bulgaria with a substitute for Marion Isbert in the 24th minute. She took part with the national team in the World Cup , which was held for the first time in China from November 16 to 30, 1991 . Their only tournament game was the game for 3rd place, which they lost 4-0 against Sweden's selection . In 1993 she played the European Championship quarter-final first leg, won 7-0 in Moscow on October 11, 1992, against the selection of Russia . Against this selection, she completed her last international game on October 27, 1994, which was won 4-0 in the EM quarter-final second leg in Osnabrück .
