Ellen Weski

Ellen Weski (born June 8, 1946 in Hanover ; † April 27, 1986 ) was a German classical archaeologist .

After graduating from high school in Hanover in 1965, Ellen Weski studied classical archeology, art history and ancient history at the universities of Mainz , Freiburg , Vienna and Munich from 1966 to 1973 . On December 20, 1973, she received her doctorate from Ernst Homann-Wedeking in Munich with the dissertation The Roman Portraits in the Antiquarium of the Munich Residence . From 1974 to 1976 she was a museum assistant in advanced training at the Antikenmuseum Berlin . During this time she wrote the catalog section of the book Ancient Coins from the Amersdorffer Collection . From 1977 to 1981 she worked with the art historian Heike Frosien-Leinz on behalf of the German Archaeological Institute and with funds from the Volkswagen Foundation on the complete catalog of sculptures in the antiquarian hall of the Munich Residence , the only surviving collection of antiquities from the Renaissance in Germany. She delivered the manuscript of her catalog of ancient sculptures in 1981. From 1981 to 1984 she was an advisor to the General Director of the State Museums of Prussian Cultural Heritage in Berlin. Since 1984 she has been the scientific director of the Berlin plaster molding shop . She did not live to see the publication of her book.
