The Ellenbach is a brook in the municipality of Laberweinting in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen , which flows from the right into the Bayerbacher Bach after a 3.3 kilometer long, approximately northwest run near Osterham .

course

The stream rises east of Poschenhof in the hill forest between Neuhofen in the east and Haimelkofen in the west at about 446  m above sea level. NHN next to a forest path down the Hunsrück. From its source , the Ellenbach runs in a north-westerly direction. On the upper course, the Kanapeebrunn and Rattenbrunn springs, which were taken in 1995, feed the small watercourse. The creek is dammed three times in the forest on the edge of the Ellenbachholz. These reservoirs were created in 1976 after the fire in the Lüneburg Heath . Afterwards the brook meanders further west. At the edge of the forest, in the valley floor between Kronwittberg in the north and Ellerbacherholz in the south, there are again three reservoirs in the so-called Dienstgrund. A few years later, these were also created to store fire water . Soon it was also possible to see fish that settled in it after spawning transfer by water birds. Since the year 2000, several beavers have settled in the ponds at the edge of the forest and in the forest and transformed the area into a habitat that is favorable for them through dams and beaver castles.

On the further course, the Ellenbach briefly moves largely natural to about 2.2 km below its source through meadows, fields and a wet biotope to the industrial area at Poschenhof. From there it flows in an almost straight line past the sports grounds to Hofkirchen . It crosses there in passages under the district roads SR 50 and SR 55 and finally flows out at about 380  m above sea level. NHN at Osterham, bordering north of Hofkirchen, from the right into the Bayerbacher Bach .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Ellenbach lies in the east of the Danube-Isar-Hügelland natural area and covers around 4 square kilometers. The highest point in it is east of the source in the forest on the eastern watershed across the Hunsrück at around 488  m above sea level. NHN . Beyond it, the Altbach flows north through Neuhofen to the Kleine Laber , while behind the left watershed the Asbach continues upwards and behind the right the Haadersbach continues down to the Kleine-Laber tributary of the Bayerbacher Bach.

In the catchment area, the Ellenbach runs a little closer to the left, some tributaries of less than 500 meters in length reach it in the forest and immediately in front of it from northeast to northern direction.
