environment

The Ellerbach is one of the coarse material-rich, silicate low mountain streams (type 5). Its water structure is mostly very strongly or completely changed in the local areas. The sections in between have a slightly to significantly different structure. A short section below Winterbach and a section near Burgsponheim are structurally unchanged. The water quality of the Ellerbach is not polluted in the upper reaches up to the confluence of the Tonbach, but then moderately polluted up to Bockenau. Below Bockennau, the water quality has improved to such an extent that it is classified as less polluted. Below the confluence of the Graefenbach, the water quality is again given as moderately polluted. (As of 2005)
