Elof Ericsson
Johan Elof Ericsson (born August 25, 1887 in Trankils , Värmland , † June 29, 1961 in Åtvidaberg ) was a Swedish entrepreneur, politician and sports official. In 1936 he was Sweden's Minister of Commerce for a short time. He made Facit a global term for calculating machines and was in charge of the Swedish Football Association and Åtvidabergs FF .
Life
Ericsson, who came from a working-class family, attended a business school . He then worked as a civil servant in Värmland and Eskilstuna , before he was appointed director of AB Åtvidabergs industrier , a company specializing primarily in office furniture and other wood products, which had emerged from a bankruptcy . Later the company also manufactured wooden bodies for Volvo and parquet for floors. In the following years he took over the calculating machine manufacturer AB Facit, based in Solna, which was later relocated to Åtvidaberg. He managed the company until 1952, which he expanded into a global corporation known for calculating machines with subsidiaries in over 100 countries. At the same time he was active as a politician and as an official at the local football club Åtvidabergs FF .
After the election to the Swedish Reichstag in the summer of 1936, Ericsson, although a politician of the Folkpartiet , belonged from June to the government led by Axel Pehrsson-Bramstorp from the Bauernbund , which created a minority government after the failure of the formation of a non-socialist government. His term of office was short-lived, as the government had to resign on September 28, 1936 after the Reichstag elections. Until 1943 he was a member of the Reichstag. Between 1941 and 1948 he was head of the association of the wood industry, the Träindustriförbundet .
Ericsson was 1930–1932 and 1935–1936 president of Åtvidabergs FF, respectively its predecessor club Åtvidabergs FF, but was also a constant benefactor of the club outside of those times. As early as the 1920s, he pushed ahead with the expansion of the Kopparvallen stadium , for which he was responsible in 1936. On his initiative in 1935 the general sports club Åtvidabergs IF split into its individual sections. This resulted in Åtvidabergs FF, of which he became chairman. In 1958 he and his company supported the construction of new changing rooms. Between 1937 and 1949 he was also the Swedish Football Association .
His son from his marriage to Olga "Ollie" Fröding Gunnar Ericsson (1919–2013) took over the company from his father, which traded under the name Facit AB from 1965 , and managed it until 1970. After that, he was CEO for a few years, albeit after the sale of the company at the end of 1972 to Electrolux, which had become necessary after the rapid decline due to the competition of electronic calculating machines, was effectively only formally in the position. From 1969 to 1972 he was in the Swedish parliament. From 1950 to 1951 he was president of Åtvidabergs FF, moreover, like his father, a constant benefactor who had made great contributions to the club's heyday from the 1960s to the 1970s. From 1970 to 1974 he was chairman of the Swedish Football Association and also from 1969 to 1972 a member of the Reichstag and from 1965 to 1996 of the International Olympic Committee , thereafter an honorary member. He was also the administrator of the Ollie och Elof Ericssons Stiftelse Foundation .
