The ElringKlinger AG is a German company with headquarters in Baden-Württemberg Dettingen an der Erms , who as automotive supplier operates. As of December 31, 2018, the ElringKlinger Group comprised 39 fully consolidated subsidiaries in addition to the parent company.
The company offers solutions for combustion engines as well as hybrid or electric drives. The products include cylinder head and special gaskets , lightweight plastic components and shielding parts for the engine , transmission , exhaust system and underbody. The electromobility division offers components and systems for fuel cell and battery technology. The portfolio is supplemented by products made from the high-performance plastic PTFE - also for sectors outside of the automotive industry. The company is also the world market leader in the cylinder-head gasket segment.
About 90 percent of the annual turnover of 1.7 billion euros depends on diesel and gasoline engines.
history
In 1879 Paul Lechler founded a trading company for seals and technical products in Stuttgart. The company began producing seals itself in 1914. In 1964 and 1965 the headquarters were relocated to Dettingen an der Erms. Richard Klinger founded a construction workshop in Vienna as early as 1885 and also manufactured cylinder head gaskets from 1930 onwards.
In 1971 the company began its internationalization with an initial investment in Spain. In the following year the production sites in Bietigheim-Bissingen and Langenzenn were founded.
In 1994 arose from the automotive sector of Richard Klinger GmbH and the Elring GmbH , the ElringKlinger GmbH , based in Dettingen. On October 30, 2000, ElringKlinger GmbH merged with the parent company ZWL Grundbesitz- und Beteiligungs-AG and was henceforth called ElringKlinger AG . The ElringKlinger AG is listed on the since January 21, 2002 Frankfurt and Stuttgart stock exchanges. On November 13, 2003, ElringKlinger was admitted to the SDAX and on March 4, 2009 to the MDAX . At the meeting on March 3, 2016, Deutsche Börse decided on changes in the composition of its share indices that ElringKlinger AG shares will be included in the SDAX again with effect from March 21, 2016, from which it will be withdrawn on September 24, 2018.
On October 27, 2009, ElringKlinger acquired the automotive supplier Ompaş based in Bursa , Turkey, in order to enter the Turkish market.
On May 11, 2011, the Swiss-based exhaust specialist Hug Gruppe was acquired. On September 12, 2011, ElringKlinger AG acquired 90 percent of the mold and tool maker Hummel-Formen from Lenningen . Hug was sold to Faurecia in 2018 .
On January 3, 2012, ElringKlinger bought the metal housing manufacturer ThaWa GmbH, based in Thale , Saxony-Anhalt . The Japanese joint venture ElringKlinger Marusan Corporation with its subsidiaries was fully consolidated as of December 31, 2013 based on a contractual agreement on the exercise of control.
In July 2014 ElringKlinger AG took over 75 percent of new enerday GmbH, based in Neubrandenburg, Germany. In October 2014 ElringKlinger Kunststofftechnik GmbH took over all shares in Polytetra GmbH, which processes fluoropolymers and classic high-performance plastics.
In February 2015, ElringKlinger bought the US automotive supplier M&W Manufacturing Co. (Michigan), thereby significantly expanding its market position for transmission control plates for automatic transmissions in North America and worldwide.
In October 2016, ElringKlinger entered into a strategic partnership with the engineering company hofer AG and also took a 53 percent stake in the subsidiary hofer powertrain products GmbH . By acquiring the stake, ElringKlinger benefited from the innovative strength of the developer of powertrain systems in the development and manufacture of alternative drive technologies for hybrid or all-electric vehicles.
On May 9, 2018, the German start-up Sono Motors announced the award of a major order for the development and manufacture of a battery system for the announced Sion solar vehicle . The total volume amounts to several hundred million euros over a term of eight years.
