Occurrence

The Alsatian summer root occurs in southern, central and eastern Europe, in Morocco, in Central Asia, in Siberia, in the Caucasus and in China.

Systematics

Three subspecies are distinguished within the species, the subspecies libanotidis is occasionally also known as Orobanche bartlingii Griseb. guided.

  • Alsatian summer arum ( Orobanche alsatica Kirschl. Subsp. Alsatica ): It has the chromosome number 2n = 38.
  • Bartling's summer root ( Orobanche alsatica subsp. Libanotidis (Rupr.) Tzvelev , Syn .: Orobanche bartlingii Griseb. ): It has the chromosome number 2n = 38. It occurs in southern, central and eastern Europe.
  • Mayer's Sommerwurz ( Orobanche alsatica subsp. Mayeri (Suess. & Ronniger) Kreutz ): It is endemic to the Swabian Alb. It was discovered in July 1940 by the Tübingen pharmacist Adolf Theodor Mayer on the Zeller Horn and on the Hangenden Stein am Raichberg near Onstmettingen. He considered the plant to be Orobanche elatior , but the clan was recognized as new by Karl Suessenguth and Ronniger in 1942 and described in honor of the discoverer as the new variety Orobanche alsatica var. Mayeri .

Locations

The species grows in heat-privileged fringing communities and semi-arid grasslands. It prefers moderately dry, base-rich, lime-rich, nutrient-poor soils. In Central Europe it is a species of the Geranion sanguinei association.
