Emil Anner

Emil Anner (born February 24, 1870 in Baden in the canton of Aargau ; † February 6, 1925 in Brugg ) was a Swiss graphic artist , painter , draftsman , etcher and set designer .

Life

Emil Anner was born the son of Gottfried Anner, the Baden city council and builder of Schartenfels Castle .

From 1878 to 1886 he attended the community and district school in Baden. From 1886 to 1890 he was a student at the Zurich School of Applied Arts , after which he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva with Joseph Mittey (1853-1936), where he learned watercolor painting . From May 16, 1892 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with the engraver Johann Leonhard Raab .

In 1894 he received two diplomas at the academic exhibition and in 1895 a bronze medal. At the age of 31 he returned to Baden. In 1901 he was appointed as a drawing teacher at the district school in Brugg and stayed there until his death.

Anner also worked at the teachers' seminar in Küsnacht , where he taught, among others, Eduard Gubler . In 1904 he co-founded the Aargau section of the Society of Swiss Painters and Sculptors (GSMBA). Gottlieb Müller was his successor as a drawing teacher at the Brugg District School.

Anner worked for the magazine Jugend und Kunstwart . He mainly dealt with small-format commercial graphics in etching and lithography, and created numerous bookplates. In addition, he was engaged in music, played various instruments and composed.

From 1921 he was a member of the Aargau Natural Research Society .
