Emil Dörle
Emil Dörle (born September 29, 1886 in Herbolzheim ; † June 24, 1964 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German musician and composer .
Life
The son of a master blacksmith, who was the conductor and music director of the Herbolzheim town band from 1884 to 1918, attended high school, took part in military service and was a professional in the financial service, where he became head of the auditing office in Freiburg in 1929.
From 1897 he was a musician in the Herbolzheim Town Musicians and learned several instruments for the brass band, such as flute , clarinet , trumpet , French horn and tuba . He also received piano lessons and developed the basics of composition in self-study . In the 1920s he was the conductor of the Herbolzheim town music.
Dörle was not only an active musician, but also worked as a functionary in the brass music scene . In 1926, for example, he was one of the founders of the Bund Südwestdeutscher Musikvereine. In 1950 he was the godfather of the founding of what is now the Federation of German Brass Music Associations , which he served as president until 1954.
Works
His first work was the Jubilee Overture, which premiered in 1911 and won a first prize. Dörle composed 56 marches, including Hoch Badnerland, his most popular work, which has come under criticism, among other things, for lack of quality in terms of the cast and, above all, of contemporary performance practice. The final trio of the march is the Badnerlied . Hoch Badnerland was also arranged for a marching band or for an accordion orchestra. The swing version in the big band sound edited by Albert Loritz is remarkable .
During the term of office of the former Freiburg mayor Rolf Böhme from 1982 to 2002, the brass band of the municipal transport company Freiburg presented the March Hoch Badnerland at official events , and since then the audience has been singing along with the more or less well-known text when the final part begins, sometimes with symbolic "hand-on-heart-gesture" and tears in the eyes, a commitment to the Badnertum made.
In addition to his concert, street and processional marches, Dörle has composed 24 overtures and waltzes, with most of his works being suitable for middle and high school orchestras. His overture Thalia is currently still a self-chosen piece of several music associations, z. B. Listed by the Bavarian Brass Music Association . His works have been published almost exclusively by Fritz Schulz Verlag in Freiburg (today Bohne & Schulz Verlag Konstanz).
Well-known compositions , some of which are still performed today, are:
