Emil Fucik

Emil Josef Fucik (born May 14, 1912 in Vienna ; † December 2, 1989 there ) was an Austrian politician. He was district chairman of Favoriten from 1966 to 1977 .

Life

Emil Fucik was the son of a worker and grew up in the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten. In 1928 he started working for the savings and advance payment cooperative Flugrad , in 1933 he became unemployed and remained that way until 1938. At that time he was a union official and a member of the SDAP . In 1935 he was arrested for political reasons.

After the Second World War , Fucik was employed in a chemical factory. From 1946 he was district cultural advisor and in 1947 district secretary of the SPÖ . From 1953 to 1966 he was a member of the Vienna state parliament and municipal council . Fucik succeeded Karl Wrba as district chairman of the 10th district on May 11, 1966 . During his tenure, numerous measures were taken that were to change the district in the long term and sustainably. In 1974 the 2nd International Horticultural Exhibition WIG took place in the newly created Kurpark Oberlaa , the pedestrian zone in Favoritenstrasse was created and the construction of the U1 between Reumannplatz and Südtiroler Platz was carried out. Important archaeological excavations also took place in Unterlaa .

Emil Fucik's grave is in the cemetery of the Simmering fire hall (Department 8, Ring 2, Group 2, Number 33). In 1992, the large urban residential complex built in 1950/51 at Gudrunstraße 55-103 in Emil-Fucik-Hof was named. The Emil-Fucik-Gasse in Favoriten was also named after him in 2004.
