Emil Ruusuvuori (born April 2, 1999 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish tennis player .

Career

Ruusuvuori already played successfully on the Junior Tour. In 2017 he took part in all four Grand Slam tournaments and reached the semifinals at the US Open , where he lost to eventual winner Wu Yibing in three sets. His best result is a combined 4th place.

As a 15-year-old he played his first tournaments on the lower-class ITF Future Tour and ATP Challenger Tour . He was listed in the world rankings in 2016. There he made a leap into the top 600 in 2017 with his first future title. In the game against Georgia he made his debut for the Finnish Davis Cup team . In the following year he continued to improve significantly - he won two more titles in both singles and doubles - and at the end of the year he was ranked 385th in singles and 733th in doubles. Ruusuvuori was nominated again for the Davis Cup games and contributed in the game against Egypt with his victory in the decisive fifth game against Karim-Mohamed Maamoun to the promotion to the continental group I.

In 2019 he should make his breakthrough on the Challenger Tour. After failing in the first round in doubles, he made it to the final in Schymkent with his partner Jurij Rodionov . There they defeated the top seeded duo Gonçalo Oliveira and Andrej Wassileuski in three sets . A month later he also won his first title in singles. In Fargʻona he beat Roberto Cid Subervi in two straight sets in the final . This makes him the fourth Finn to win a Challenger title in the last 30 years. Through these successes he improved in the world rankings in singles to 300th place, in doubles to 296th place. He plays for the TC Blau-Weiss Neuss in the 2nd tennis Bundesliga .
