Wu Yibing ( Chinese 吴 易 昺 , Pinyin Wú Yìbǐng ; born October 14, 1999 in Hangzhou ) is a Chinese tennis player .
Career
Junior tour
On the junior tour, Wu Yibing was able to record initial successes. In autumn 2017 he was number 1 in the junior world rankings. In 2016 he reached the final of the prestigious Orange Bowl , one of the world's most important junior tennis tournaments. There he had to admit defeat to last year's winner Miomir Kecmanović 3: 6, 1: 6. In 2017 he celebrated his greatest success at the US Open . He was able to win both the single and the double competition . He was the first Chinese to win a Grand Slam title.
Professional tour
Wu has only been playing on the professional tour since 2017 and mainly on the second and third class Challenger and Future Tour. So far he has won a single title on the Future Tour. In 2017 he won his first title on the Challenger Tour in Shanghai - at only his third tournament in this category. In the final his opponent, the top seeded Lu Yen-hsun , had to retire due to injury after losing the first set. Wu won the individual competition without losing a set.
It celebrated its premiere on the ATP World Tour in Chengdu in 2017 . He received a wildcard for both the single and the double field . However, he lost the opening match together with Wu Di in both singles and doubles . He played his first Masters tournament shortly afterwards in Shanghai . He entered singles and doubles again with a wildcard. While singles ended in the first round, he managed a surprise win in doubles with his partner Wu Di against Fabrice Martin and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the first round . In the second round he was then defeated by the duo Oliver Marach and Mate Pavić . Due to his success, he was able to play his way up to the top 300 in the world rankings in singles and doubles .
In 2017 he also appeared for the first time for the Chinese Davis Cup team . He won his first match against Jason Jung .
