Jurij Robert Rodionov (born May 16, 1999 in Nuremberg ) is an Austrian tennis player .

Career

Rodionov competed in the junior competitions of the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris and Wimbledon in 2017. At the French Open 2017 he reached the round of 16 in junior singles , as well as the semi-finals in junior doubles with his partner Michael Vrbenský . In Wimbledon he reached the Junior Singles quarter-finals, the Junior Doubles again Vrbenský the final. In August of the same year he was ranked 8th in the junior world rankings.

Rodionov has been on the tennis world ranking of professionals since November 2015 . In July 2017, Rodionov reached the main round for the first time as a qualifier for a challenger , the second highest tournament group. At the Advantage Cars Prague Open 2017 in Prague he was in the quarter-finals with victories against Jan Šátral and Enrique López-Pérez , but was eliminated there by João Domingues . For the Generali Open , an ATP World Tour 250 tournament , Rodionov received a wildcard for qualification , where he lost his opening match against Maximilian Marterer . At the end of his first year as a professional, he was ranked 497 for the first time in the top 500 of the world rankings.

He won his first title at Challenger level in June 2018 in Almaty . As a qualifier, he was able to defeat the Serb Peđa Krstin in two sets in the final . With this success he made it into the top 300 of the world rankings for the first time.

Private

Jurij is the son of Belarusian parents and has lived in Matzen, Lower Austria, since he was two years old . He has also officially had Austrian citizenship since 2015.

Others

Rodionov caused a stir at the 2017 Wimbledon Championships when he had to change his dark underpants during an encounter, as they shimmered through the white trousers. The strict rules at Wimbledon require all players to only play in white tennis clothing.
