Emmanuel Célestin Cardinal Suhard (born April 5, 1874 in Brains-sur-les-Marches , Mayenne department , France ; † May 30, 1949 in Paris ) was Catholic Archbishop of Paris .

Life

Emmanuel Célestin Suhard was 1897 in Laval for priests ordained . In 1928 he was appointed Bishop of Bayeux and Lisieux . He was ordained bishop on October 3, 1928, by the then Bishop of Laval, Eugène-Jacques Grellier .

In 1930 Suhard was appointed Archbishop of Reims . On December 16, 1935 he was appointed by Pope Pius XI. the Cardinal raised, and as cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Onofrio in the College of Cardinals received. On May 11, 1940, he became Archbishop of Paris .

Emmanuel Célestin Suhard founded the Mission de France in 1941 and the Catholic International Center for Cooperation with UNESCO in 1947 .
