Emrah (singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emrah Erdoğan (born January 1, 1971 in Ergani , Diyarbakır Province ), also known by his stage name Emrah , is a Turkish singer and actor with Kurdish roots.

Music career

Emrah lost his father at the age of one and a half. They later moved to Elazığ because his mother found work there. While Emrah was attending school in Elazığ, his music teacher became aware of him. Together they recorded some demo tapes before Emrah became famous in the mid-80s.

He brought out his first music album Ağam Ağam in 1983 under the name "Küçük Emrah" (German Little Emrah) . After the album Ayrılamam (German: I cannot separate), which sold more than 1,500,000 copies, he was called the Prince of Arabesk . In the 1990s he dropped the nickname Küçük and began to write songs himself. In addition, his music was influenced more and more by pop .

With his first two albums in the 1990s, however, he could not build on the success of his previous records. "Sen Gülünce" (German: when you smile), published in 1991, sold just 350,000 copies.

Because of these low sales, Emrah decided to change his music style. With his next album Haydi Şimdi he tried his hand at the "Fantazi Müzik", a mixture of arabesque and pop .

The album was a huge hit, selling 1,100,000 copies in the first year alone. It was the best-selling album of 1993 in Turkey. In total, Haydi Şimdi has sold over 1,795,000 copies, making it Emrah's most successful album. Another record was set by Emrah with his concert in the "Inönü Stadium" in 1994. He was the first Turkish artist to manage to fill the stadium with 50,000 spectators.

After the album Sevdim Mi Tam Severim (German: if I love, then I really love), which sold only 300,000 units, Emrah separated from the record company "Barış & Bayar Müzik" and signed with "Marş Müzik", where he signed his own Record label founded.

The first album released under "Emrah Müzik" was Narin Yarim from 1996. The album sold more than 425,000 copies in the first 20 days of its release and was a huge success. With "Narin Yarim", "Götür Beni Gittiğin Yere" (German: take me with you wherever you go) and "Unutabilsem" (German: if I could forget) 3 songs that made it onto the best-of album.

In May 1998 his 15th, also successful album Dura Dura was released . The clip for the song Dura Dura earned him a nomination at the Kral TV Video Awards. With "Belalım Benim" (German: my annoyance) the album contains one of Emrah's biggest hits ever.

His 17th studio album Ar + ı , which was released in 2002, was again one of the best-selling albums of the year. It was recognized by MÜ-YAP for special sales success.

With the album Kusursuzsun (German: you are spotless) he released an album in 2004 that was very different from his previous ones. Modern pop songs dominate the album, you won't find any arabesque titles. Although Emrah received very good reviews with his albums Kusursuzsun and Dön (German: kehr zurück) from 2005, many of his fans are disappointed with the new music of their star. This is also the low sales of the two albums: From Kusursuzun were only 185,000 and Dön sold only 100,000 copies.

In September 2006, Emrah released a maxi single for the first time . The "mini-album" called Adın Ne Senin (German: What's your name) was relatively successful for a single with almost 40,000 copies sold .

In the course of his 28-year career, Emrah can look back on countless hits, such as E.g .: Yaralı (wounded), Boynu Bükükler (the wounded), Ben Yetim (I am a ward), Ayrılamam (I cannot part), Vurmayın , Seninle İlk Defa (the first time with you), Haydi Şimdi Gel , Unutabilsem u. a. But his most popular piece is probably Belalım Benim .

His first best-of album was released on November 13, 2007 . The album includes 14 of his greatest hits that Emrah re-sung in the studio.

With the album Yelpaze , which was released on July 15, 2008, Emrah experimented with R&B for the first time . However, it had only sold 25,000 copies by the end of the year and is the singer's lowest-selling album.

After three years of absence, Emrah continued his music career with his 22nd studio album Terzinin Oğlu (the tailor's son). For the promotion of the new album, the singer came up with something special: Emrah was the first Turkish artist to present his new songs on a steamship between two continents . The TV station TRT broadcast the event in 42 countries. The album, which was released on July 5, 2011, is significantly more successful than the singer's last four albums. The first edition. by "Terzinin Oğlu" was sold out after 50 minutes. More than 100,000 copies of the album were sold within the first three weeks.

Acting career

Emrah first appeared in front of the camera at the age of thirteen . In his films he often sings songs that can be found on his albums. There is a track of the same name for each of the films Yaralı , Boynu Bükükler , Acıların Çocuğu , Ayrılamam and Vurmayın . With Yalnız Güneş Şahitti , Emrah made his last film for the time being in 1994.

Emrah was first able to achieve similar successes with his music and films in 1996 with a television series. In Unutabilsem he played the lead role in one of the most successful Turkish television series. Emrah himself sang the music for the series. The piece Unutabilsem can be found on his album Narin Yarim .

In 2002 the actor was able to land another big television hit with Kınalı Kar . Also this time he sang the self-written and composed song.

Two years later, Emrah played the main role in Büyük Yalan . Here, however, he did not sing the track Büyük Yalan himself at the opening. The song by Emrah himself can only be heard on the album Dön .

In 2006 Emrah starred again in a television series; However, Adak was canceled after just ten episodes due to disagreements between the TV station and the production company.

In September 2007, Emrah starred in the series Oğlum İçin alongside Fatma Girik . The soundtrack for the series comes from Emrah himself. The song Yüreğim Paramparça is sung by Gülay at the opening . The series was canceled after nine episodes due to low ratings.

Two years later, in September 2009, Emrah starred in the series Hicran Yarası . For the first time he did not play in a series from the beginning, but only got involved in the 26th episode. Emrah composed the song Hicran Yarası for the series , which served as the opening from the 26th episode. The series was more successful than the last two in which Emrah starred.

Others

  • Emrah has an illegitimate son named Tayfun. The child's mother, Ebru Çolak, filed a lawsuit against Emrah on April 2, 1992 to prove the singer's paternity. After a court-ordered paternity test, he finally recognized the paternity for Tayfun. However, the process dragged on for nine years, as Emrah repeatedly ignored the request for a paternity test. Emrah himself asserted that the reason he refused to take the test had nothing to do with Tayfun. He is concerned with the fact that Ebru Çolak dragged him to court in order to get his money in this way.
  • In addition to Turkey , Emrah is also popular in Iran . In an internet voting he was voted the most popular Turkish singer with over 60 percent in front of musicians like Mahsun Kırmızıgül , İbrahim Tatlıses , Özcan Deniz , Ferdi Tayfur and Orhan Gencebay .
  • In May 2007, Emrah won the lawsuit against Mustafa Hakan Yıldız. In 2000 he released an album under the name "Emral". Not only Yıldız's stage name was similar to that of Emrah. Hairstyle, style of clothing and voice also showed astonishing similarities. Emrah İpek accused Mustafa Hakan Yıldız of copying his appearance and name in order to attract more attention. After a seven-year trial, the court ruled Emrah and sentenced Mustafa Hakan Yıldız alias “Emral” to a fine of 511,000 YTL , the equivalent of around 290,000 euros.
  • Since the beginning of 2007, Emrah has owned a fitness and wellness studio called "SportEM".
  • The release of his album Terzinin Oğlu was originally planned for February 14, 2011. However, Emrah's recording studio was broken into in January . Among the stolen goods were the computers and mixing consoles as well as the recordings for the album and songs that Emrah had written for other artists.
  • After a three-year relationship, Emrah married Sibel Kirer in mid-2014. At the end of December 2014, the couple had a son named Elyesa.
