Energy Awards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Energy Awards are an initiative of the Handelsblatt to show the progress and changes in the energy industry. The Energy Awards want to accompany the energy transition and bring special achievements to the fore.

Emergence

Due to the energy transition in Germany , the generation of electricity from renewable energies , energy storage and distribution and their efficient use are gaining central importance for society. The classic energy sector is becoming increasingly heterogeneous. The awards should give new and innovative energy concepts a public stage. The awards were given by the Handelsblatt , u. a. initiated in collaboration with Thomas Clark .

Energy Academy

The Energy Academy organizes meetings with experts from various fields and industries. The aim of this think tank is to exchange ideas about the central questions and challenges of the energy transition. Architects, civil engineers, journalists, professors, energy buyers, energy traders, project developers, building technology experts, power plant and boiler specialists, environmental researchers, managers and politicians are involved. Membership in the Academy is voluntary and by invitation.

jury

The jury is made up of the members of this think tank.

2014

2015

Start-up: Blue Freedom

Blue Freedom offers innovative small hydropower plants for decentralized energy supply with an output of up to 20 kilowatts. With the lightest and smallest hydropower plant in the world, Blue Freedom launched its first product on the market with sensational success and is thus influencing the global rethinking process for the use of renewable energies. The company was founded in 2015 by Benedict Padberg in the USA.

Industry: Sunfire

Reversible electrolysis combines two modes in one system: electrolysis and fuel cell. As electrolysis, it produces renewable hydrogen for various industrial sectors or for conversion into renewable fuel. The system can be reversed to fuel cell mode at any time and converts hydrogen or other energy sources back into electricity. It can be installed at any point in the power supply network, centralized or decentralized, and can therefore be used flexibly. The company was founded in 2010 by Carl Berninghausen, Christian von Olshausen and Nils Aldag in Dresden.

Mobility: Kreisel Electric

Of centrifugal Electric one was lithium-ion battery developed for electric vehicles on the basis of round cells. Compared to other manufacturers, the weight and construction volume are only around half. Using special laser welding technology, the individual cells are optimally connected to one another and thus meet the highest security requirements, including mechanical and electrical individual cell protection. The company was founded in 2014 by Philipp, Johann and Markus Kreisel in Freistadt, Austria. In May 2016, the Austrians announced the construction of a first factory for their own battery production with a capacity of 800,000 kilowatt hours.

Smart Home: Tado

The developers at tado believe in the modern, intelligent technology that ensures that no energy is wasted unnecessarily and have therefore developed the smart tado thermostat. With the help of an app, tado detects when the last person leaves the house and automatically turns down the heating. Thanks to the fully automatic control, tado not only makes everyday life easier, it also provides more living comfort and saves up to 31 percent energy. The company was founded in 2011 by Christian Deilmann in Munich.

Utilities & Stadtwerke: Stadtwerke Wolfhagen

Wolfhagen's consistent path to decentralized and renewable energy supply: In 2015 Wolfhagen generated as much electricity as the city consumes in a year. Milestones on the Energieweg are a solar park and a wind park, which together generate almost three quarters of the annual electricity requirement, as well as the harmonization of the electricity demand with the fluctuating feed-in of the wind and solar systems. The BürgerEnergieGenossenschaft Wolfhagen turns electricity customers into co-owners of the municipal utilities through public participation. The company was founded in 2008 by the Wolfhagen city council in Wolfhagen.

2016

Start-up: Africa Greentec

In Mourdiah, Mali, the standardized 20ft pilot solar container (30 kWp) from Africa Greentec supplies a total of 1000 people with sustainable electricity. The company thus creates social and economic growth with its local partners. Further solar containers of the 40ft version are currently in production - an impetus for Africa's rural electrification.

Industry: Green IT Cube

The cooling principle of the Green IT Cube with passive rack rear door heat exchangers and exclusive cooling energy generation through evaporative cooling towers and complete renunciation of mechanical cooling machines is a highly efficient cooling method for data centers. The cooling principle allows the construction of a very compact, high-bay warehouse-like data center building. In this way, up to 30% of the floor space and up to 50% of the construction volume can be saved.

Mobility: DriveNow

Since the start in 2011, DriveNow has succeeded with stationless car sharing to get over 600,000 people in nine European cities excited about sustainable mobility and to make a valuable contribution to reducing urban traffic and emissions. DriveNow's fleet already consists of 20 percent electric vehicles. DriveNow is therefore one of the key drivers of electromobility and has brought more than 100,000 people into contact with it for the first time since 2013.

Smart Home: Fenecon

Decentralized energy storage systems represent a challenge for the energy transition - if they only serve to increase self-consumption of PV, but feed-in and purchase run uncontrolled and cannot be planned. In the Fenecon energy partner model, the storage systems are operated in a grid-friendly manner and the income generated from them is credited to the electricity bill. Networked in the virtual power plant, decentralized systems take on responsibility for network stability.

Utilities & Stadtwerke: Stadtwerke München

Stadtwerke München wants to generate as much green electricity in its own systems as the residents of Munich need by 2025 . Since 2008, SWM has therefore been investing primarily in wind energy in Germany and Europe with its renewable energies expansion campaign and a budget of 9 billion euros.
