Engelbert Guggenberger

Engelbert Guggenberger (born May 9, 1953 in St. Lorenzen im Lesachtal ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic priest . From July 2018 to June 2019 he was the administrator of the Diocese of Gurk .

Life

After graduating from high school in Tanzenberg , Guggenberger studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University from 1972 to 1979 . After being ordained a priest in Rome in 1978, he worked as a chaplain in Gmünd in Carinthia for two years . In 1982 he received his doctorate in theology with a dissertation on Karl Rahner . From 1986 to 1988 he was provisional parish priest in Bad Kleinkirchheim and St. Oswald , from 1988 to 1999 in Pörtschach / Berg and Projern and from 1999 to 2008 in Amlach and Molzbichl . At the same time he was from 1988 to 1999 Regens and director of the episcopal seminary "Marianum" Tanzenberg and from 1999 to 2008 pastor and dean of the city parish Spittal an der Drau . On September 1, 2008, Bishop Alois Schwarz appointed him Vicar General of the Diocese of Gurk and thus the successor of Gerhard Christoph Kalidz .

Guggenberger is a member of the Episcopal Consistory, the supreme advisory body of the Bishop, also executive chairman of the diocesan council , since 1988 chairman of the diocesan commission for ecumenical questions, chairman of the interest groups of spiritual hospitals, since 2003 elected chairman of the board of directors of the conference of deans, chairman and chairman of the ecumenical contact commission of the Ecumenical Contact Mission of the Diocese of Gurk.

On July 2, 2018 he was elected diocesan administrator by the cathedral chapter. In June 2019 he was deposed. Military bishop Werner Freistetter became apostolic administrator of the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt .
