English Masters
The English Masters was a high-level badminton tournament . It was held annually from 1979 to 1988 and again in 2005. In 1979, the Masters held in the Royal Albert Hall was the first badminton tournament in which prize money was distributed and the era of Open Badminton was ushered in. As a result, several Masters tournaments were launched, such as the Scandinavian Masters , the Indian Masters and the Malaysian Masters . From 1979 to 1984 the English Masters was an invitation tournament, from 1985 it was part of the World Badminton Grand Prix. The venue changed frequently, as did the sponsors. In 2005 the English association tried to revive the tournament, but only the mixed competition was played in the official program. Furthermore, a junior show competition in women's singles took place in the 2005 program, which Eleanor Cox won 9: 5 against Michelle Cheung .
