Neu-Epprath is part of Kaster , a district of Bedburg in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The original place Epprath (today's name: Alt-Epprath) had to relocate until 1968 due to the Garzweiler opencast mine and the Fortuna-Garsdorf opencast mine .

Old Epprath

geography

Epprath on the tranchot card

The old village of Epprath bordered in the north on the also excavated town of Morken-Harff , in the south on Darshoven and Tollhausen (Bedburg) , both districts of Epprath. The Erft ran west of Epprath and had to be relocated because of the Fortuna-Garsdorf opencast mine and the Garzweiler opencast mine . Harff Castle bordered northwest of Epprath .

Description of the village and relocation

The village was very agricultural . Chickens and cows still roamed the streets in the village until the 20th century.

Alt-Epprath had to relocate despite strong protests with the worth seeing village Morken-Harff with Harff Castle and the village Alt-Königshoven . Only Kaster and Broich (Bedburg) were able to prevent their resettlement. In 1968 only 101 of the previously 449 inhabitants were still in the village.

Epprath werewolf

Peter Stump , a farmer from Epprath, is believed to have committed at least 16 murders, rapes and incest over a period of 25 years in the shape of a werewolf in the 16th century . He was executed on October 31, 1589 behind today's Silverberg High School in Bedburg by wheeling and beheading and his body was burned. A total of 4,000 spectators are said to have been present when Peter Stump died in agony. Numerous leaflets were distributed after the trial and his death.

New Epprath

Neu-Epprath is in the south of Alt-Kaster and in the east of Neu Morken-Harff . In the south lies the city of Bedburg . A wooden place-name sign on a parking lot near the residential area, the Epprather chapel at the sports field, Epprather Strasse and Darshovener Strasse remind of the former village in the new village.

The new place was built in 1968 for the resettlers from the old place. In some cases, Rheinbraun built turnkey houses for the resettlers, hence the uniform architectural style in the village. There was hardly any space for farmers in Neu-Epprath, they settled near Grevenbroich and Neuss .

Neu-Epprath is not a separate district, it belongs to Kaster with Neu Morken-Harff .
