Neu Morken-Harff or Morken-Harff (new) is part of Kaster , a district of Bedburg in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The original place Morken-Harff had to relocate until 1976 due to the Garzweiler opencast mine and the Fortuna-Garsdorf opencast mine .
geography
Morken-Harff (new) borders in the north on Königshoven , in the east on Kaster, in the south on Bedburg and Lipp (Bedburg) and in the west on Pütz (Bedburg) and Kirchtroisdorf .
history
Place name
Morken is either derived from the Latin Mauracien, which means settlement of the Mauritanians , or, which is much more convincing, the derivation of "Maar", which denotes pools and swamps . Maerke also appears in the older spelling.
Harff is derived from "Horr" and "ouwe", which means something like swamp lowland.
religion
The majority of the population in the new district is Catholic . A Protestant Church does not exist in the district, but in neighboring Kaster.
Village history
On May 14, 1962 the planning project was handed over by Roloff to the architects Himich and Bremer from Rheydt . They planned the village structure with manageable land and as many green spaces as possible, such as parks, playgrounds or wider streets. Many non-resettlers also live in the actual resettlement site today, so the area of Morken-Harff had to be (re) enlarged during the resettlement, the originally planned 33 hectares were no longer sufficient. In order to enlarge the area, area was removed from the town of Königshoven in the north.
In 1970 construction began on the new town hall, which was created with the new market square on St.-Rochus-Straße. It was completed on October 30, 1972. From September 1, 1971, the new kindergarten could be used, with the new school right next to it. In addition to the classrooms, this was given a spacious break hall, auditorium, which can also be used for school services and other events. The cost of building the school amounted to DM 2.8 million, DM 1.8 million more than planned.
The construction of the St. Martinus Church began in the same year and by Christmas 1973 it was already finished.
A swimming pool with sauna was built for relaxation in the new location. It was built according to the plan of the architect Rech from Hennef (Sieg) . That is why it is often called the “Hennef model”. It could be used from 1974.
With the swimming pool as the last public building, the resettlement was completed around 1976.
Attractions
St. Martinus Church
The church was built according to the plans of the Cologne architect Rotterdam Jr. The church houses numerous pieces of jewelry from Morken-Harff: The crucifixion group from Morken Calvary was built into the outer wall, in front of the church is the old spire from the old church in Morken-Harff, which was built in 1894/95 and demolished in 1974, is in the church park also an old bell from the former twin town. The old mosaic from the main entrance of the old church in Harff was installed above the entrance to the church , it shows St. Martin , to whom the parish church in Morken-Harff was consecrated. Inside the church, St. Martinus houses an oak confessional from the 19th century, an oak pulpit from 1760 and the Simons organ, built in 1985, with 30 registers. The station of the cross, which already adorned the old parish church, was freed by a private person before the church was demolished and thoroughly restored and renovated before it was walled into the new wall. This station of the cross was made by Jean Sauer in Aachen in 1895 , in French Sawagem stone. In the church there are still numerous figures of saints, most of which date from the 15th century.
Morken crucifixion group
The crucifixion group stood in the old village before the Morkener Kalvarienberg was built in the parish cemetery. The construction of the Morkener Kalvarienberg was commissioned in 1531 by the owners of Harff Castle at the time. As a reminder of their deed, they had the coat of arms carved into the crucifixion group. The crucifixion group was brought to the resettlement site at Kaster and placed here on the wall of the new church of St. Martin.
Crossroads of the Mirbachs
There is only one memory of Harff Castle and its owner in the resettlement site, the Mirbachs crossroads; it stood behind today's Kaster town hall on the market square. Before the resettlement of Count Antonius von Mirbach-Harff, it was given to the city of Bedburg and set up here.
In 2010 it was moved to the Spless through the sponsorship of Morken-Harffer Schützen and has been maintained since then.
