Erich August Keller (born March 27, 1919 in Konstanz , † 2010 in Costigliole d'Asti ) was a German painter , sculptor and graphic artist .

Life

Erich Keller became a soldier as a young man and was deployed in the Italian mountains during the last year of World War II , where he fell ill. After a stay in a hospital in Germany, he first completed an apprenticeship as a baker after the war and then worked in his parents' bakery in Constance. A few years after the end of the war, he took painting lessons from Sepp Biehler and lessons in sculpture from Adolf Schmidt . Keller's other teachers in the 1950s were Julius Bissier and Richard Bampi ; with the latter he designed a ceramic wall at the Old University in Freiburg.

In 1959 or 1960 he left Germany. In the following decades he lived in San Remo, Turin , Varese and in Costigliole d'Asti. At the end of the 1970s he lived again temporarily in Constance, in the Villa Douglas ; In 1987 he bought a domicile in Gaienhofen , which he kept until 1996 and to which his last studio in Costigliole d'Asti was added in 1988.

Keller mainly produced graphic works such as etchings . He showed his pictures in more than 20 solo exhibitions in Italy, Germany and Switzerland in the 1960s and 1970s. In his hometown of Konstanz, Keller's works were exhibited in the Wessenberg Gallery in 1970 and in 1974 at the University, further exhibitions in the Lake Constance district followed in 1996 in the Volksbank in Konstanz, in 1997 in Überlingen and in the Höri Museum in Gaienhofen and in 2001 at Siemens in Konstanz. Keller's works were purchased by the Municipal Gallery for Modern Art in Turin.

Others

Erich Keller was one of the founding members of the Laugelegumper guild in Constance, along with numerous other painters from the Lake Constance region.
