Erich Schönborn

Erich Schönborn (born May 15, 1886 , † January 11, 1971 ) was a German officer, newspaper editor and sports official. From 1937 to 1945 he was Head of Tennis Office in the National Socialist Reichsbund for physical exercises and President of the German Tennis Federation .

Life

Schönborn was stationed as a young lieutenant in Cologne from 1901 to 1905, where he came into contact with tennis as a member of KFC 1899 (later VfL 99 Cologne). During this time he was also known as a horse rider. During the First World War he served as a major in the general staff . After the war, Schönborn founded a tennis club in Wesel ( TC Wesel ) in 1919 . From 1920 he worked as a sports editor for the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung .

In 1937 the German Tennis Association lost its independence when it became part of the National Socialist Reich Association for Physical Exercise (NSRL) and was thus completely aligned . Schönborn was appointed head of the newly created Tennis Office by Reich Sports Leader Hans von Tschammer und Osten . He stayed that way until the end of World War II .

After the war, Schönborn worked as a newspaper editor in Wesel.
